World Press Photo heeft de genomineerden bekend gemaakt van de 64e World Press Photo Contest en de 11e Digital Storytelling Contest. Onder de nominaties zijn de World Press Photo of the Year, World Press Photo Story of the Year, World Press Photo Interactive of the Year en World Press Photo Online Video of the Year.

Er zijn in totaal 45 fotografen genomineerd uit 28 landen: Argentinië, Armenië, Australië, Bangladesh, Belarus, Brasilië, Canada, Denemarken, Frankrijk, Griekenland, India, Indonesië, Italië, Iran, Ierland, Mexico, Myanmar, Peru, Filipijnen, Polen, Portugal, Rusland, Slovenië, Spanje, Zweden, Zwitzerland, Nederland en de Verenigde Staten. In totaal werden er 74.470 foto's ingezonden door 4.315 fotografen.
De zes genomineerden voor de World Press Photo of the Year zijn:

Joumana El Zein Khoury, executive director of the World Press Photo Foundation: 'The nominated images, stories, and productions we introduce today present different perspectives of one of the most important years in recent history, marked by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the social rights movements around the world. Amongst the nominees are remarkable stories of hope, resilience, and social change.
